The biennial Island Games are a big deal.
When it comes to multi-discipline sporting competitions, only the Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games are bigger. Organising such a large, high-profile event is no small task.
This year, for the first time, the games were hosted by Orkney, and what a week it was. Well done to all the organisers, committees, teams, competitors and supporters who made Orkney 2025 an event to remember.

Every two years, the competition travels to a different archipelago, giving an amazing opportunity for island communities to celebrate their identities, renew friendships and rivalries, and compete in high-level sporting action.
At NB we were delighted to see Team Shetland perform so well, bringing home 17 medals – one gold, nine silver, and seven bronze. It was also great to see our good friends in Orkney reach new heights, winning 31 medals, including 11 golds. Congratulations, Team Orkney!
From packed venues and thrilling contests to roaring crowds and medal moments, Orkney 2025 was a triumph. We’re thrilled to have played a small role in helping make it happen.
At NB Communication, we worked with the organisers to create the Orkney 2025 brand identity and built the Orkney 2025 website.
Orkney2025 brand identity
Inspired by Okney’s Norse heritage and iconic Orkney landmarks, our team took colour inspiration from the stained glass of St Magnus Cathedral. This resulted in a vibrant visual identity rooted in Orkney heritage, while having a modern feel, and capturing the spirit of the games.
It was rewarding to see the colourful identity and the brand’s personality come to life as part of the event experience.
Designed to reflect the energy and distinctiveness of the Games and the islands themselves, the branding could be seen throughout the event – from uniforms and merchandise to signage, medals, and broadcast visuals. It’s always satisfying to see creative work come to life, and even more so when it's woven so seamlessly into such a vibrant celebration. Developing orkney2025.com
NB's team also designed and developed the official Orkney 2025 website. As well as showcasing essential pre-Games information for competitors, volunteers and visitors, the site became the go-to source for schedules, results, live-streaming and medal tallies. With regular updates in the run-up to and during the event, it was an evolving hub that reflected the fast-moving, high-energy nature of the Games themselves.
A special mention must also go to one of our long-standing clients, Sheila Fleet Jewellery, who created a stunning new collection inspired by the Games. The range captures Orkney’s sense of place and pride – the perfect souvenir of a truly memorable week.
Finally, while the Games may be over, Orkney’s appeal certainly isn’t. If the Islands have inspired you, we’d encourage you to start planning your next visit. You’ll find everything you need over on Orkney.com – a site we’re proud to manage and maintain on behalf of the islands.
Congratulations to the entire Orkney 2025 team – and to every competitor, volunteer and supporter who made this event such a success. We’re honoured to have played a small part.
